Jewelry Care

Protective Coating: As of 2024, each piece is treated with ProtectaClear, a protective coating that's waterproof and sweatproof to prevent tarnishing and oxidation. It also helps to prevent people with sensitive skin from having allergic reactions to their jewelry. ProtectaClear coating naturally wears off after about 6 months of regular use. It is available for purchase for easy at-home reapplication. Jewelers' wax is another effective option for preventing tarnish.

Bare Metal Care: No worries! You can still wear your jewelry without a protective coating! If you prefer your jewelry without a protective coating, note that copper may cause skin discoloration for some due to coppers natural reaction. As copper will naturally oxidize over time, there are methods to prevent and remove tarnish from your bare copper jewelry.

Polishing: Use a soft cloth (included with your order!) for regular polishing to maintain shine and remove any potential tarnish.

Cleaning: Wash copper and Argentium silver jewelry occasionally in lukewarm, soapy water. Dry thoroughly and polish with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Natural Remedies for Tarnish Removal for Copper:

  • Salt and Vinegar: Apply a mixture of table salt and vinegar to the jewelry, rub gently, rinse with water, and dry.
  • Salt and Lemon: Use a half lemon dipped in salt or mix salt with lemon juice, apply to jewelry, rub gently, rinse, and dry.
  • Steel Wool: For stubborn tarnish on copper, gently use fine-grade steel wool to buff the surface. Be cautious to avoid scratching the metal or pulling wires.

Storage: To prevent tarnishing, store your jewelry in a cool, dark place, preferably in a plastic bag to reduce exposure to air and moisture.

Avoid Exposure: Keep jewelry away from direct sunlight, heat, chlorine, and salty air, especially in coastal regions, to minimize tarnishing. Don't submerge and take your jewelry off before showering and swimming.

Handle with Care: Copper is a relatively soft metal and can bend or scratch more easily than harder metals. Handle it gently and avoid wearing it during activities like working out or sleeping that could damage it.

Chemicals and Cosmetics: Ensure lotions, perfumes, and other chemicals are fully absorbed and dry on your skin before wearing your jewelry to prevent potential damage.
